BMR Calculator
Basal Metabolic Rate
Your Basal Metabolic Rate is the minimum number of calories needed to power your body while resting. Or to put it another way, your BMR is the energy expended by your body to sustain normal functions, like your heart beat, normal body temperature and respiration.
Your Basal Metabolic Rate normally accounts for about 60-70% of your daily calorie requirements. Typically, your BMR will peak at the age of 19-21 and gradually fall by on average 2 percent per decade, due in part to inactivity and the subsequent loss of muscle tissue.
Please remember, however, that this is only one of many possible ways to assess your correct Basal Metabolic Rate. If you have any concerns about your weight, please discuss them with your physician, who is in a position, unlike this BMR Calculator, to address your specific individual situation.
